The music video for the remix version featuring Tyga was filmed in Northern California in November 2011.The video features cameo appearances by rappers E-40 and Mistah F.A.B.. Late rapper Mac Dre's mother, Wanda Salvatto, also makes an appearance at the beginning of the video. It was released on Vimeo on December 21, 2011. The video was officially released by VEVO on February 10, 2012.

Chart performance
The song debuted at #18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with first-week sales of 124,000. In its twenty second week it ascended to #14.On the week of February 18th, 2012, "The Motto" ascended to number one on the US Rap Chart making it his twelfth number one on the chart and further extending his lead as the artist with the most number one hits since the chart began.
Cultural impact
The song is credited with popularizing the phrase YOLO - an acronym which stands for "You Only Live Once". The movement has also penetrated mainstream culture as actor Zac Efron was noted getting a tattoo with the acronym. The Washington Post describes YOLO as "the newest acronym you'll love to hate." The Huffington Post says: "YOLO is dumb." The motto is practically equivalent to the older carpe diem.
It has permeated amongst youth culture. A high school prank in Chicago, Illinois involved high school students chanting "YOLO." Some people have grafittied YOLO on walls. It has become a popular Twitter hashtag. Some youth have said that it is their motto.
However, Drake and Lil Wayne did not create the term. It was first used in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, the title character Ferris Bueller says 'you only live once', two songs have also been made with the full phrase as the title, by The Strokes in 2006 and Suicide Silence in 2011 respectively.
